Learn languages with Online resources

It is becoming more important for individuals to begin to learn new languages. This can be daunting task for people who have never experienced learning a second language, or for people who have had experience in the past, but are out of practice. It can be difficult to know where to start, and what program works best for you. The Brentwood Public Library offers different online programs for learning language that make learning at home easy and stress free.

Pronunciator is a tool for learning languages online, and is available through our databases. With Pronunciator you can select from 163 languages to learn right from your home! Pronunciator allows you to customize their course to what works best for you. With their personalized courses you can choose the language, and what parts of the language you want to focus on from key phrases to what types of environments to use the language in.

Pronunciator lets you set your course load to work at your own pace, and focus on the parts off language you need the most help with, whether it be reading, writing, listening, or speaking. It also offers the ability to attach a microphone and test your pronunciation skills while reading along with the prompts.

We also offer access to Rosetta Stone, another popular language learning tool. Rosetta Stone has less customizable lesson plans for users, but this can benefit those who aren't quite sure where they would like to start with learning a language. The courses are guided, and can give you a more hands on feel than pronunciator at times. The class times are however estimated to be longer than Pronunciator's, but each class gives you an estimate of how long they should take to give you a better idea.

Pronunciator and Rosetta Stone are both great tools to use in your free time to enhance your ability to speak languages. The Brentwood Public Library offers access to Pronunciator and Rosetta Stone with your library card barcode, and you can create an account using a valid e-mail address and password. Give it a try today, and enjoy learning new languages!
