The "Knives" are out again

Benoit Blanc is back in "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery". The film is writer-director Rian Johnson's sequel to his hit "Knives Out". Daniel Craig returns as Blanc, who i snow investigating two murders in Greece.

Helen Brand hires Blanc to investigate the death of her sister Cassandra "Andi" Brand, the ex-business partner of billionaire technology company head Miles Bron. Miles has invited five old friends to a murder mystery weekend at the Glass Onion, his mansion on a private island in Greece. Andi was to be one of the guests, and her death has not yet been revealed. Blanc suggests that Helen pose as Andi for the weekend to help him investigate. Her presence unnerves the others, who all have strong financial ties to Miles. Blanc intentionally spoils the wekend by solving the planned "murder mystery" immediately. But things change when one of the guests dies at a party. With two murders to solve, Blanc probes relentlessly. He exposes Miles as a selfish. manipulative control freak. It all leads to an explosive and satisfying conclusion.

The film is not as good as "Knives Out", but Rian Johnson has made another slyly entertaining Agatha Christie-style whodunit. Strikingly filmed in Greece, it has the same sharp wit and direction as its predecessor. The all-star cast (Leslie Odom Jr., Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista, et.al.) are amusing. Edward Norton is a delightfully smarmy villain, and the marvelous Janelle Monae nearly steals the movie as Helen. But the film belongs to its star. Daniel Craig again brilliantly anchors the movie as Benoit Blanc.

Rian Johnson has done it again. This is another sparkling whodunit.
