Keeping the community involved online with Twitch Streaming

Twitch is an online streaming platform that many people use to stream video games to a wide audience. The Brentwood Public Library has been utilizing this platform as well to get the community involved in online gaming through our Teen and Adult gaming nights on Twitch. Streaming on twitch can give the community a way to interact even with single player games, by giving the streamer their input and sharing in the experience. There are also games like The Jackbox Party Pack, where viewers on Twitch can participate in the games by going to Jackbox.tv and inputting the code that appears in the Twitch stream. 

The streaming is done by our librarian DJ Hess for the adult section, as well as our resident Mr. Po, who describes his experience as, "My main job a Mr. Po is to both entertain the children and teens through video games. Through twitch the streaming platform that I use, it helps me not only to show my face through the camera but also helps me interact as if I was with them in the library. Many key games like The Jackbox Party Pack, where Quizzes and games show hosts helps to keep the community involved and entertained on a weekly basis." 

It is important for us to continue to involve the community in passive online programming during this epidemic, and to provide entertainment where we can. Twitch can be a great way to passively spend your day
