These classes emphasize Conversational English, Listening/Speaking, and Communication Skills, Grammar, Vocabulary, and Writing. Classes are available from Basic/Beginner to Advanced. Registration is ongoing. Placement testing is by appointment only. Students must be at least 21 years of age.

Basic Literacy Tutoring pairs native English-speaking learners with tutors in one-on-one sessions to improve reading and writing skills. ESL Tutoring provides small group instruction in basic English. Students requesting a tutor must be at least 21 years of age and a resident of Brentwood. Tutors are volunteers from the community.

Tutor Training Workshops

Volunteers learn the skills and methods necessary to tutor both Basic Literacy and ESL students. The Literacy Department has an ongoing need for tutors to help improve the lives of our residents by satisfying their literacy needs. Workshops are offered in the Fall and Spring. Applications are available in the Literacy Office or may be requested by phone.
