Brentwood Public Library Updates
April 1, 2020 – Due to the Governor’s Executive Order postponing library elections, the Brentwood Public Library Budget Vote & Trustee Election scheduled for April 7, 2020, has been postponed. The Library is awaiting further direction as to the timing, location and manner of its vote.
March 28, 2020 –The Board of Trustee meeting scheduled for Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at 7:00pm will be held via teleconference. To join the meeting, please call (Toll Free): 1 (877) 309 2073 and use Access Code 154-680-109. Please note – in order to minimize ambient and environmental noise, all callers will be muted when connected.
March 22, 2020 –The Voter Registration scheduled for Tuesday, March 24, 2020, 2:00-8:00PM and the 2020-2021 Budget Information Public Hearing scheduled for Tuesday, March 31st, 2020, 6:30PM have been cancelled.
Governor Andrew Cuomo has issued several executive orders related to the coronavirus outbreak. The newest executive order by the Governor is mandating that 100% of New York’s non-essential employees, as of Sunday, March 22, must stay home. The library will remain closed in compliance with the Governors orders. All Due dates on any physical materials will be extended until the Library reopens. The book drop will remain closed.

We have postponed all April program registration and are suspending all in-person programs and events until further notice.

March 14, 2020 – The Brentwood Public Library, its Board of Trustees, and Administration have been closely monitoring all developments pertaining to the COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic.
In an effort to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, the New York Library Association is recommending that public libraries in New York State suspend public operations.
It has been determined necessary to close all Library facilities, including the bookdrop until further notice in order to protect the health and well-being of patrons and staff during this declared State of Emergency. Any late fees that accrue while we are closed will be waived. Please check the Library’s website for updates relating to the Library’s operations.
March 12, 2020 - In response to recent potential cases of COVID-19 in our community, the Brentwood Public Library will be closing this Friday, Saturday and Sunday so as to facilitate a comprehensive deep cleaning of all areas of the Library. We are doing everything that the public health dept. recommends in terms of cleaning and sanitizing the building in order to prevent the spread of the virus. At this time, we intend to re-open on Monday morning.
March 12, 2020 – Out of an abundance of caution, the Brentwood Public Library has suspended all library programming through Sunday, March 29th 2020. Updated information will be continuously re-evaluated and determinations regarding future programming will be posted.
The Brentwood Public Library is closely monitoring information about the coronavirus (COVID-19). We are committed to maintaining essential library services for our users while ensuring the health and safety of our patrons and staff. Currently, the library remains open and operating on normal schedules.
The Library is working closely with the Suffolk County Library System and following all recommended guidelines for the cleaning and operation of the library from Suffolk County Department of Health and CDC.
The following is a list of additional steps the Library is undertaking to ensure a safe environment:
- Making Hand Sanitizer Dispensers available for library users.
- Elevated cleaning and sanitizing measures in all public areas, including surfaces, door handles and elevator buttons with germicide proven to eradicate COVID-19.
- Increased focus on cleaning high-touch or shared surfaces, including public computers, keyboards, service counters, door knobs, handrails
- Removal of nonessential high-touch items, such as puzzles, toys, etc.
- Posted signage promoting recommended public hygiene practices, including frequent hand-washing
