Body Paragraph
Thank You M'am.jpg

The short story is called "Thank You M'am", written by Langston Hughes. In the story, a boy named Roger wanted to get something that he's been wanting but didn't have the money. He thought that nobody would be willing to hand him some money to just selfishly spend it on some shoes, so he decided that the only way he could get them was by someone's money, which it turned out to be Ms. Jones's money, an old, large women. Unfortunately, he fails and Ms. Jones becomes furious with the boy, so she decides to teach him a lesson. Ms. Jones tells Roger that if he had asked, she would have gladly given him the money. With that, Roger learns that with a little bit of kindness, it make a big difference. Others should read "Thank You M'am" because this short story encourages readers to act kind to others and to treat them how they would want to be treated. Ms. Jones could have reported Roger to the police station, but instead takes him in, and gives him food and money to buy shoes that he wants. She knows that with her actions, it would inspire Roger to treat others the same good way she has treated him.
